GOLD SUMMIT CODE OF CONDUCT

TEENS/ADULTS

BASIC CONDUCT:
  • Show respect by greeting your Instructors and Elders at the Institute first. Say hello with a small bow, especially to Instructors. Bowing with eyes down is respectful. This is a tradition of giving respect as a way to acknowledge the years of service and arduous training in the arts that your seniors have undergone. It is not worship. It is also not just a greeting for the sake of saying "hey"
  • Be on time to class. Unless you have permission to come late, make every effort to be on time. Repeated lateness without communication or respect, can be cause for dismissal from the class.
  • Do not talk on the training floor! Save your conversations for the Main Hall
  • Make every effort to learn the etiquette and philosophy
  • Know the Head Teacher's and other Instructor's backgrounds
  • Do not bring your bad day into class. Leave worries and troubles at the door in order to be respectful by giving your full effort in class.
  • Do not Gossip. If you have a disagreement on policy, whether financial or other, please discuss it with Staff. If you have misunderstanding about classes, please see your Instructor. To talk with other student's or other people negatively is counter-productive and destroys the harmony of the environment.
  • Return phone calls and emails. Please call if you will miss more than 2-3 classes to inform the Institute when you will return to help keep good lines of communication open.

BASIC DRESS:
  • Come to class clean and full uniform. Uniforms, socks etc. should CLEAN and be in good shape.
  • No tank tops, bare mid-driffs, hoodies or shorts allowed.
  • NO JEWELRY
  • Hair must be out of eyes. Women must wear their hair up to train.
  • NO COLOGNE OR PERFUME
  • Nails must be trimmed
  • No beads or barrettes in hair
KIDS AND PARENTS
BASIC CONDUCT:
  • Parents should reinforce the etiquette and philosophies of training. Teaching the young students how to bow and say hello is the first most important conduct. Supporting the Instructors when instilling discipline is tantamount to success for our young students.
  • Parents should have all relatives and friends informed of how to encourage and reinforce the etiquette when picking up/dropping off. This gives great consistency to the children, allowing a better long term relationship with the kids and their Teachers
  • Parents are encouraged to learn the philosophy in order for their child(ren) to progress. At the 3 year mark and/or YTWC level, learning is required.
  • Please do not Gossip. If you have a disagreement on policy, whether financial or other, please discuss it with Staff. If you have misunderstanding about classes, please see your Instructor. To talk with other student's or other people negatively is counter-productive and destroys the harmony of the environment. Gold Summit is here to work with you.

BASIC NUTRITION:
Kung fu is a more demanding art than most sports in schools. Chinese Martial Arts also follow some Chinese medicine theory of foods. Gold Summit uses this philosophy. along with the idea of eating organic, whole foods and less meat. This has amazing results and is the reason for the guidelines below:
  • It is required that kids have had enough to eat and drink to train on. A healthy snack or early dinner are good options. If a child does not have enough energy to train, they will be asked to sit out so as not to cause any health troubles.
  • Avoid processed, sugary foods. Avoid Milk, dairy on training days as it causes sluggishness and tiredness. Avoid processed, sliced meats and fast food.
  • Kids need water before class, especially in the summer months
  • For specialized dietary guidelines for your household, please make an LHA appointment with Laoshi Markle. Good nutrition will MAKE OR BREAK a child's progress in the long term.

BASIC DRESS:
  • Kids should come to class clean and full uniform. Uniforms, socks etc. should be CLEAN and in good shape.
  • Shoes must be doubled tied and not so long as to be under the shoes and cause the children to trip
  • No Jewelry
  • Hair must be up and out of eyes
